The Northumbria Deaf Mission
what is it for?

The Church of England set up the NDM many years ago.
It wants to make the church accessible to deaf people who live in the areas around Newcastle and Durham.

What does it aim to do?

  • To enable deaf and hard of hearing people to know more about God.
  • To make sure that deaf and hard of hearing people can learn about the Christian Gospel.
  • To provide services that are accessible to all, with deaf and hearing people taking part.
  • To raise hearing people's awareness of deaf people's spiritual needs.
  • To strengthen the links between deaf and hearing Christians.

NDM Celebrates 125 years

1876 - 2001
One hundred and twenty five years of providing ways to enable worship in sign language for deaf and hard of hearing people, that is some commitment.













MISSION STATEMENT

The task of the Northumbria Deaf Mission is to be the primary instrument of the Church of England in the Dioceses of Durham and Newcastle in meeting the spiritual needs and pastoral care of deaf and hard of hearing people, specifically to:
